Happy Valley to Hot Springs EHV Transmission Project


Entergy Arkansas is modernizing and strengthening the energy grid across the state to increase reliability and resiliency for Entergy customers, First Electric and local electric cooperatives. The proposed Happy Valley Transmission Project includes constructing a new 500-kV substation, named Happy Valley 500-kV Substation, and an approximately 33-mile 500-kV transmission line.

The proposed 500-kV Happy Valley Substation will be constructed near a site where two existing 500-kV transmission lines come together and split at a point in northwest Saline County. The proposed substation site is located approximately two miles south of the community of Ferndale; approximately 2.25 miles southwest of the intersection of Kanis Road and the existing Mabelvale to Mayflower 500-kV transmission line.

The new Happy Valley Substation will allow for re-terminating the two existing 500-kV transmission lines, which are:

1. Mabelvale to Arkansas Nuclear One 500-kV transmission line
2. Mabelvale to Mayflower 500-kV transmission line

The new 33-mile 500-kV transmission line will terminate at the proposed Happy Valley 500-kV Substation and then extend southwesterly for approximately 33 miles, traversing portions of Pulaski, Saline, Garland and Hot Spring Counties, and then terminate into the existing Hot Springs EHV Substation located along Arkansas State Highway 270 near the community of Jones Mill in Hot Spring County.
